Carrie Alajoki (admin)

Carrie Alajoki this is me 😀.  I love to write and journal.  When I was working on my doctorate degree, I wrote a million papers (maybe not a million but it felt like it).  Now that I am graduated, I want to write for fun.  I am combining my love of writing and running and here we are - for the Long Run.

Carrie's running profile:  I did not start running until I was in my 30's.  I am not even sure what got me to the first start line.  I have struggled with weight my whole adult life and thought maybe running would help.  Boy was I wrong.  Running is hard as a plus size runner - it is hard no matter what - then add an extra 75 pounds and it is pretty challenging.  Over the years I learned if I really wanted to run efficiently, I really did have to train, watch the calories and lose a little weight.  Instead of running to lose weight -- I lost weight so I could run.  What a difference.  It is still hard, but it is hard is because I am pushing myself - not because I am just trying to make it.  At this point, I've ran several half marathons - I might even be approaching 10 of them!.  I have ran 10Ks and 5Ks.  In 2021, I finished my first ever marathon!  I wouldn't say I "ran" my first marathon, but I finished.  My favorite thing about running is running with my buddies - and of course the post run selfie.

Carrie's 2024 Grandma's Goal:  To properly train including the scheduled miles, cross training, and most importantly - STRETCHING!  I would love to PR but will be happy with running strong and confident.   I am super excited to be named a Grambassador for the 2024 race because I am a total Grandma's weekend enthusiast.
