Welcome to the Long Run blog. This blog will document our journey of training and running our first full marathon. Make sure to view the running team located on the left hand column of the blog. Most of the posts will come from me - Carrie. The team will post and share some updates along the way and I will be sure to highlight the author. Otherwise, assume I am the writer.
Why the blog? 2020 was a year. COVID, the presidential election, racial and social injustice - all top the charts with important conversations. There is lots of work to be done here. 2020 was also a time of slowing down and appreciating our close family and friends. While there were many things we couldn't do - my family enjoyed things we could do together at home. My husband, kids and I tried to find ways to spend extra time together we wouldn't have otherwise had. My husband and I finished about sixty 1000 piece puzzles since March. We also cooked a ton. Watching teenagers navigate a pandemic was heartbreaking at times - but also there were many moments that made me very proud to be their mom. I accomplished some pretty cool personal goals in 2020. I PR'd my best half marathon even though is was virtual, finished my doctorate degree, and passed the Family Nurse Practitioner certification exam. Now that school is behind me, I want to write for fun. My running buddies (who you will learn lots about throughout this blog) decided 2021 was finally the year we tackle a full marathon. So - take my joy of writing and my love of running and put them together - and here you are. The Long Run blog.
Social Media and Running: I love a good post-run selfie. Finish the run, take the photo, post it to social media = goal accomplished. On the surface, the post run selfie seems a little vain. Maybe a little "look at me". I get that. But on the other hand, I see it as a celebration of accomplishing the days run goal. It is not easy to get out there and run. It is so hard to stay motivated. To be fair, I should also post photos of the days I chose not to be motivated. Those photos would be fun - look at me shove this box of cookies in my mouth. Those days are real and they happen. This blog will highlight all of the ups and downs.
So to answer the question, does your workout still count if you don't post it to social media - of course it does. I will probably keep posting my run photos that some might find annoying. But instead of just sharing the photo that makes it all look so easy, I will also share here some thoughts behind the photo.
